The Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing meets with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, to Discuss the Progress of Work on Joint Projects

Today, His Excellency the Minister of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, met with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Human Settlements Program, Mr. Mohammed Al-Zarqani, and the UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Nahid Hussein. The meeting aimed to discuss the progress of several ongoing projects between MOMRAH and the programs and explore ways to enhance cooperation in the municipal and housing sectors.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the "Support for Spatial Planning and Urban Improvement Program" agreement signed by MOMRAH with UNDP. The agreement aims to implement six initiatives to enable urban planning processes in Saudi cities. These initiatives include joint projects that will have an impact on the global ranking of Saudi cities according to the requirements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

MOMRAH is working to benefit from the outcomes of the agreements to develop policies, legislation, systems, and plans related to urban planning and development. This supports the adoption of development decisions based on the governance of spatial planning procedures through planning departments, comprehensive monitoring and accountability systems, as well as enhancing the capabilities of the municipal sector and developing methodologies for placemaking to optimize the competitive advantages of the Kingdom's cities. This is done to continue providing integrated, environmentally friendly and human-friendly communities.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing, through the United Nations Human Settlements Programme agreement, aims to update the boundaries and standards of human settlements, review their classification, and improve the services provided to city residents, enhancing their efficiency and sustainability
